'57 Artesian Humbuckers
The Artesian series is a faithful recreation of the original PAF (Patent Applied For) pickups made during Gibson's golden era during the 50s and early 60s, using only the highest quality parts available, including butyrate bobbins, maple spacers and Elektrisola 42AWG (0.0635mm) plain enamel wire and AlNiCo 4 magnets.
The PAF pickups Gibson introduced in 1957 were unique because they were wound on machines designed to produce P90 pickups and this created a wind pattern that built up a lot of wire in the centre of the bobbin, while leaving the outer edges underwound. this has the effect of limiting the turn count and thus, the DC resistance to around 7.6K, with a maximimum of around 4.5 Henrys Inductance. This allows for plenty of clarity and dynamics, with a treble response not found in later models.
